The term Platonic love is named after ancient Greek mathematician and philosopher Plato, who first tried to explain this form of love.
This little four-letter word called “love” is one of the most difficult emotions to explain in words; a feeling that has engulfed the hearts and vexed the minds of the entire world. It is often hard to explain this feeling because it comes in so many forms. For instance, young love is so heated that you can virtually see sparks emitting from the couple from miles away. While some are so overwhelmed by it that it becomes a part of that person and his very being―like the mother’s love for her child. There also exists the protective caring love that a man or father feels for his wife and children. And then there is Platonic love, which is the perfect combination of sincere d’amour (sincere love) and pure friendship.
Platonic love has a rare quality of being asexual as it revolves around the spiritual and emotional relationship between two people. Many have attempted to understand this beautiful relationship and, in their attempts at understanding it, have come up with their own theories.
